My First International Trip: A Journey of Growth and Adventure in Cologne, Germany
In 2018, I began on an unforgettable journey that would forever shape my perspective on the world. It was my first international trip, and the destination was Cologne, Germany. The purpose of my visit was to join HRS- Hotel Reservation Services GmbH, my dream job in a multinational company. The prospect of exploring a new country, meeting colleagues, and experiencing a different culture filled me with a mix of excitement and nervousness. Little did I know that this trip would become a turning point in my life, allowing me to learn, explore, and grow in ways I never imagined.
At just 21 years old, I found myself on a flight with Lufthansa, bound for Frankfurt. The thought of traveling alone to a foreign country where I didn't even know the language was both daunting and thrilling. However, luck was on my side as my father, who had travelled to Germany numerous times for business, acted as my guide through phone calls. With his invaluable assistance, I felt a sense of reassurance and embarked on this adventure with renewed confidence.
Stepping
foot onto German soil, I was immediately struck by the novelty of everything
around me. The bustling Frankfurt airport, the unfamiliar language, and the
anticipation of what lay ahead created a whirlwind of emotions within me. As I
made my way to Cologne, the city where HRS Hotel Reservation Services GmbH
headquarters were located, a mix of nervousness and excitement coursed through
my veins.
Arriving at the colossal office building, I was awestruck by its grandeur. As I wandered through its labyrinthine corridors, I felt a tinge of uncertainty. However, this initial confusion soon transformed into a thrilling challenge as I gradually found my bearings and became more familiar with my surroundings. The support and warmth from my new colleagues played a crucial role in easing my transition into this new chapter of my life.
My
first days in Cologne were a whirlwind of new experiences. Eager to explore the
city, I set out on foot, discovering its charming streets, historic landmarks,
and vibrant culture. Admittedly, I made a few rookie mistakes along the way,
particularly when it came to overspending on shopping. However, each misstep served
as a valuable lesson, teaching me to be more mindful and financially
responsible during my travels.
As
the days turned into weeks, I found myself becoming more independent and
adventurous. I embarked on solo trips to nearby towns, immersing myself in the
beauty of the German countryside. With every step I took outside my comfort
zone, my confidence grew. I was no longer just a wide-eyed traveller; I had
transformed into a bold and resilient explorer, ready to embrace the world.
One
of the most rewarding aspects of my trip was the opportunity to connect with
colleagues from all over the world. In the midst of unfamiliar surroundings, we
formed a tight-knit community, supporting and learning from one another. The
bonds we forged during those months in Cologne have transcended borders, and I
cherish the friendships I made during this significant period of my life.
My
first international trip to Cologne, Germany, was a life-changing experience
that marked the beginning of my travel adventures and personal growth. Stepping
out of my comfort zone and immersing myself in a new culture taught me valuable
life lessons about resilience, independence, and the beauty of embracing the
unknown. From overcoming initial fears to exploring uncharted territories, this
journey set the stage for many more adventures to come. Looking back, I am
grateful for the opportunity that my first job provided me, as it opened doors
to a world of possibilities, broadened my horizons, and shaped me into the
confident and adventurous person I am today.
